Maasai Boma

Well we saw the infamous Bomas and they were exactly what they were cracked up to be. A Maasai Boma is a community of huts, usually of people in the same family or friends. Groups of maybe 10 huts. One man may have 3 huts for him and each of his 3 wives for example. The huts are built by the women in the village and usually take 2 days to build (and they last 10 years). They are made of wooden branches, grass, leaves, and yes to hold it together they use cow dung. They are typically separated into 4 tiny sections - entrance, calf room, bedroom/kitchen. There is no lights in there and is extremely dark. They cook their food in there as well so it gets extremely smoky in there as we soon found out. The photo is not blurry....it's the smoke from the fire.
